I enjoyed every minute spent peering into the lives and hearts of these interesting, well developed and personable characters. Quite difficult to put down from the beginning, this book will hold you captive and leave you satisfied in the end! Plot, dialogue, description and scenery all worked well in this romantic novel. I found the overall message inspiring and will recommend this well written book to others. I hope to read more Love Inspired books in the future by this author!

Besides the fact that Constance is described as being plain...who wouldn't want to be her? Young maiden with hardly a future chosen by a rich man she's loved from afar for years... Until she realizes that Marcus didn't actually choose her, but her sister.
I thought the quarrel between sisters went on for a dramatically long time (you would think Constance would be thankful for the "problem"). Other than that, if you love regency period novels, I think you'll enjoy this! It was sweet seeing the changes in the Earl, and I liked how she incorporated God into the mix!
I just loved this book. I love the way the author gave the reader a below stairs romance along with the hero and heroine's, and neatly tied all of the spiritual threads together. While I was reading, I laughed out loud at some of Constance's inner thoughts, and came to tears over her heartbreak. As much as she knew God loved her, she still had low self-esteem because of her prettier sisters. So many of us can relate to that feeling. Along the way, the author interspersed wonderful Regency details, both customs and historical figures, the very things that take the reader back in time to really experience the story. I highly recommend this book!
Picking a possible bride should be easy, right? Well so thought Earl of Spenford, whe he picked a Parson girl. He found out, the he picked the wrong one AFTER he was already married. The Earl find his new bride to be outspoken among other qualities.
As the main characters I find that the author developed them quite well. There wasn't an overwhelming use of religion. There was also another story developed inside this story, the one of Harper and Bligh, which I found cute.
My only complain is that I had wish there were at least one more chapter or an epilogue, I felt I was left hanging.
I have heard Cesar Milan say about adopting a dog, "Sometimes we don't get the dog we want. We get the dog we need." Marcus Brookstone, the arrogant Earl of Spenford, thought he was marrying Parson Somerton's beautiful young daughter but through a rather childish. but potentially devastating, trick which was pulled on him, he found himself married to her not quite as beautiful, not quite as young sister instead. Clearly, he did NOT get the girl he wanted but it remains to be seen if he got the girl he needed. This is a Love Inspired Historical so there is nothing graphic in the book. It is just a sweet love story.
Very often I am tempted to pick up a Love Inspired Historical book, and very often (79% of the time) I am disappointed by an overly sappy novel with an over used plot line...or a BORING novel with too much of a sermon in it to enjoy the characters.
When I was looking through the Christian Romance section on around Valentines day, I ran across this book. I'm a sucker for a regency romance! When I read the reviews, it sounded too good to be true. Could the book really be so good? I bought it for my , trusting all these reviews.... AND I LOVED IT!!!!! Seriously THE BEST Love Inspired novel ever, and beyond that, all together a GREAT read. The plot sounds typical at first, but as you get reading you realize that YES the plot is typical, but the way the characters react TO the plot, is not typical at all! It was FUNNY, and super cute, fast paced, not all about them having sex in the end...just all together an adorable funny regency romance....Abby Gaines if probably going to be a new favorite author of mine.
I've just about read all of the books that Ms. Gaines has written. I can't believe how different each of Ms. Gaines has been and how entertaining. Her Regency stories are as entertaining as her contemporary stories are. I want to name a favorite, but I can't choose. I've loved each one. Thank you, Ms. Gaines, for the hours of enjoyment you've given me. Don't stop writing.
I am picky. I am a freelance writer (which means there will probably be typos and errors in this review just to keep me humble), and having read enough of these Regency era novels, I know what I'm looking for... seldom have I found it. This novel is SO well written, clever, endearing, heart rending, make your fingers tingle as you turn the page exciting. The end was a little much with some modern dialogue (gaah, why!??! You were so close!) but I am looking forward to reading this one again. I have read quite a few of these Love Inspired novels, and most of them are ok, and some are just plain eye rollingly awful. This is easily the best one I've read. The sequel, the Governess and Mr. Granville is pretty good, but this book is a FIND!
