My Impressions at 25%:Oops, I messed up and didn't stop until I hit 36%, but I think that's actually a good sign, don't you? This book is well-written with a sweet premise and likable characters, good timing, and a well-organized plot. Let's see if that holds true when I hit the 50% mark ...

I keep thinking just one word that completely covers my feelings about this book so far. Cute. It's so cute -- Bree is cute, Simon is cute, the story is SO. CUTE. I love it!!

These two might be the cutest ever. I love this book!! I also want to say that I actually really love the way this story is pretty drama free when compared to most. Some readers might find this book to be a bit "slow" because it lacks quite a bit in the way of drama and conflict, but I actually like that it's just a regular girl meeting and connecting with just a regular guy. It's a breath of fresh air, and I really like stories that are simple like this -- it leaves the focus on the emotion of the story and the characters, instead of on lots of needless drama.

Well, damn. I really loved this until that scene with Bree's sister and her son. It just ... It didn't feel realistic at all, and as I sit here watching my six year old play, I cant imagine anyone doing something like that to my kid. I can't imagine any mother doing that. But then ... I suppose some mothers do. And then after, with Simon? No. Just no. I can not believe he would have done that. I'm so angry reading this right now ...

Alright, finished. And I'll confess, other than the outrage over the way things played out in the climax of the story (especially when added to the very quick and almost too easy wrap up), I did like this book quite a lot. In general, I found the characters to be likeable, their back stories to be engaging, and the book in general to be well-produced. There was a marked increase in errors as the book progressed, but as this matched almost perfectly with my increase in interest, I actually didn't find the errors terribly bothersome.
It was maybe a little cheesy in places, but to tell the truth I liked it quite a lot -- and because I had a spike of sadness when this book ended, I added the sequel to my wish/book list queue. I feel that this speaks greatly to my interest, as it takes a very good first book to make me want a second. Four stars.

Baking Bree Recipes for Romance Book 1 edition by Sarah West Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
When Bree’s grandmother passes away, she inherits the house & all it contains. Bree finds her grandmother’s recipes & is intrigued enough to take a cooking class. There she meets handsome (of course) instructor, Simon. That’s the premise so we know what’s going to happen. While that’s predictable, West has the story weave in interesting ways so I wanted to keep reading this fun chick lit story. Areas I think fell flat was involving Bree’s ex in the storyline. He didn’t add anything to the plot so I thought he was unnecessary. Bree’s brother-in-law & father are so one dimensional they are unnecessary to the plot, also. As is common now, there’s the graphic sex & language. I’m not offended, I think it doesn’t advance the plot to know how many orgasms she has or what positions are used. The language wasn’t too bad—I always feel vulgarity is used for shock value so it detracts, not adds, to the story. I would have liked to have more info on the house & decorating but that isn’t the theme of the story, that’s just what I like. The recipes were intriguing & I would have loved to hear more of the history behind them. That, too, is just me because I have basically done the same thing with my recipes. It wasn’t developed fully enough about the clothing in the trunk & her grandmother’s life as a young woman. I think those areas could’ve added a lot more to the story. West’s writing is good enough that I think she could do it without dragging the story down. The big conflict, every story has to have one, felt forced. Simon knows how sensitive Bree is, he’s seen her sister in action, he could have been more supporting. In spite of this, he does remain a loving & caring person. Throughout the book, there are mentions of Bree’s schooling & job experience. This is key to Bree’s decisions on how she wants to live the rest of her life. However, my brain kept screaming, “copyright infringement”! Throughout the book, Bree’s sister & mother have been one dimensional—no kindness, just miserable people. Toward the end of the book, Emily is contrite but it takes a lot for someone to turn over a new leaf, especially if control & meanness has been their MO for so long. A couple of pages doesn’t redeem her, in my opinion. I found her so unlikeable I don’t want to read a book with her as the main “good” character so I’m not interested in the next book. Luckily, this book is complete in itself & doesn’t need a sequel to tie up loose ends.
